It’s full STEAM ahead for learning and fun for Nazareth students (PHOTOS) - lehighvalleylive.com

Shafer Elementary School hosted an event Friday night replete with fun ways for Nazareth Area School District children to learn and be exposed to STEAM education.

STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Shafer Elementary School Principal William Mudlock said the event at the Nazareth school is an opportunity for children and their parents to explore STEAM-related academics.

Mudlock said this was the ninth year the K-3 school has hosted this type of event.

“I think it is important to expose the children to STEAM as early as possible,” Mudlock said. “We start it in kindergarten.”

The event had over 30 stations that featured building block and other engineering-related challenges, math games and reading puzzles like work bingo.

“It’s a fun day of learning your syllables and vowels,” said the school's reading specialist, Shanna Israel.

Nazareth Area Middle School students showed off their electric car project and 25 Nazareth Area High School honor students volunteered to work with the children.

Representatives of the Da Vinci Science Center, Barnes & Noble and the Memorial Library of Nazareth and Vicinity also ran several activities.
