Spring Storytime Registration - starts on Monday, March 2. Classes begin Tuesday, March 24 and will run for six weeks. Registration is required. Please call (201) 288-0485 or stop by the Children’s Desk.

Tiny Tots- Ages: Birth - 2 1/2 and their caregiver. 

Tuesdays, 10:30-11:15 A.M. 

Thursdays, 10:30-11:15 A.M.

Preschool - Ages: 3 ½ to 5

Tuesdays, 1:15-2:00 P.M.

Book Buddies - Ages: 2 1/2 to 3 1/2

Wednesdays, 10:30-11:15 A.M. 

Stuffed Animal Sleepover – The 9th annual Stuffed Animal Sleepover will take place on  Friday, March 6  from  6:30 – 7:15 P.M. &  Saturday, March 7 from 10 A.M.  until 12 Noon. Bring your best stuffed friend to the library for a visit and leave them with us for a night of fun! Come back the next morning to pick them up and see what adventures they may have had over breakfast.  Ages 3-6.  Registration is required. 

Pajama Story Time – Join an evening story time. Wearing pajamas is encouraged! We will be meeting on Wednesday, March 11 and Monday, March 23 starting at 7:30 P.M. for all ages.

St. Patrick's Day Craft & Story Time – Join in for a lucky craft and story time!  Tuesday, March 17 at 3:30 P.M. for ages 5-12.  We will be reading some great books and making a craft to take home.

Lego Club – Join the Hasbrouck Heights Lego Club!  Show off your architectural talents and come build with us. Legos will be provided. Tuesdays, March 10 & 24 starting at 3:30 P.M. for ages 5-12.

Book Bingo – Join us and win prizes. We will be meeting on Thursday, March 26 starting at 3:30 P.M. for ages 5-12.

Book Clubs for Kids – Join one of our two book clubs for kids.  Books for both groups, along with more information are available at the Children’s Desk.  It’s from 3:30-4:30 P.M.

  • Best Books is for students in grades 2-3, and meets on the first Friday of each month.
  • Critics’ Choice is for students in grades 4-6, and meets on the third Friday of each month. 

For TEENS

Teen Readers’ Club – Meets on the first Monday of the month to discuss a book, eat snacks, and play games. Copies of each month’s book will be available for checkout at the front desk.  Next meetup is March 2 from 3:30 to 4:30 P.M. (new time) we will discuss Anne Frank’s Diary: The Graphic Adaptation by Ari Folman

Wednesdays with FRIENDS - Spend Wednesday afternoons with FRIENDS. Teens in grades 6 and higher are welcome to watch a few episodes of your favorite friends on screen and off. Refreshments will be served. Upcoming meetings are March 4 and 25, from 3:30-4:30 P.M.

Teen Advisory Board – Make your voice heard - Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month. Teens can participate in community service projects, learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities, have a say in teen programming at the library, and make suggestions for books to add to the library’s YA collection. The next meeting is Thursday, March 19, from 4-5 pm.

Crossed-Generational Spring Craft for Teens & Adults

A fun-filled craft event has been planned for teens and adults to decorate their very own flower pot in preparation for spring and for Mother’s Day.  This craft project will be held on Wednesday, March 18 from 3 to 4:30 P.M. in the Library’s conference room.  

For ADULTS

Fly Fishing Sport on Display – For the month of February, an exhibition of photographs, books, equipment, and other items related to fly fishing has been provided by Doug Penna, the educational director of the East Jersey Trout Unlimited. 

This organization is dedicated to the preservation of America’s cold water fisheries. This local chapter focuses on improving rivers in Northern New Jersey. It places emphasis on conservation and education.  Results of the organization’s activities are captured in pictures on display and include the Ramapo River Restoration Project, educational partnerships with school children, stream clean-ups, tree plantings, trout stocking, and much more. If you are interested in learning fly tying, please check with the organization’s website, www.nnjtu.org to find classes and locations nearby. A free demonstration and seminar at the Library is planned for Spring 2020.

Have a favorite hobby or special collection you'd like to share?  Sign up by calling the Reference Department at (201) 288-6653 to have your collection displayed for one month at the Library. 

Crafts-to-Share Club – Join us on the first Tuesday evening of the month from 6:30 -8:30 P.M. and the third Wednesday afternoon of every month from 1:30- 3:30 P.M. Here’s an opportunity to learn how to crochet or knit and meet others with similar talents.  The next evening meeting will be March 3, and the next afternoon meeting will be March 18. Members of the Crafts-to-Share Club have donated handmade items such as afghans and caps to patients of Hackensack University Medical Center, and Tomorrow’s Children’s Fund. The library is pleased to accept donations of yarn on behalf of the club. Newcomers are always welcome.

Writers Wanted at the Library – Writers from all walks of life are invited to join the Authors and Writers Group.  Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month.  The next meeting is scheduled for March 10 from 7-9 P.M. in the Large Meeting Room.  Participants can bring their work for review and critique, or come to listen and give advice to others. As time permits, discussions will be held on topics such as publishing trends and marketing.  No registration is required. Thursday Afternoon Program – Women of New York 

Join us on Thursday, March 12, as guest speaker Marty Schneit provides a detailed history of fourteen women who made significant contributions to New York and the world at large at a time in United States History when full equality for women was not yet recognized.  Mr. Schneit will talk about the many talented and dedicated women of New York City who made a difference then that still affect us all today and have left a lasting imprint on the modern era.  Some of the women that Marty will discuss are Rose Schneiderman, Emma Lazarus, Jane Jacobs, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, Bess Myerson, Alva Smith Vanderbilt, Rosalie Ida Straus, and Mae West.  This event will take place in the library’s conference room starting at 3 P.M.

Adult Book Group – Join in the conversation and hear from others as to what they thought about the book on the fourth Tuesday of every month. The next meeting is March 24 at 7 p.m. to discuss Light Over London by Julia Kelly.  A young woman is working for an antiques dealer when she discovers a mysterious journal that tells the story of a wartime secret.  Copies of the novel are available at the front desk.
