Limestone Classic Brings Sportsmanship, Fun, And Fellowship - WBIW.com

(BEDFORD) – The Limestone Classic brought sportsmanship, fun, and fellowship to Lawrence County Saturday at the Crossroads Community Church.

“This makes our third year of bringing the event to Crossroads Community Church located at Indiana State Road 37 and Trogden Lane, ” said Lori Branam Coordinator for Lawrence County Special Olympics.

A total of 43 teams converged to play 50 games, from all over the State of Indiana. There is a total of eight teams from Lawernce County.

The Limestone Stone Classic is a fun event from the volunteers to the players who enjoy playing sports.

This Special Olympics event takes more than 100 volunteers to put on the event. All volunteers from the referees, coaches, and EMS workers donate their time.

Issac Crane and Garrett Nolan volunteered as Emergency Medical Team should any medical emergency occur.

“This type of event is tremendous in wrapping our arms around the forgotten. We want them to feel the love from the people of the community, church and most of all the love of Christ,” said Lyndon Hopkins Pastor Crossroads Community Church.

“My son plays for the Knox County Wizards, he started since he was five years of age before age requirements. And enjoys playing basketball,” said Charla Patton of Bicknell Indiana.

Brian Patton, 44 plays for Knox County Wizards, Brian has played basketball since age five.

” I am 44 and just enjoy playing basketball,” Charla son, Brian told us.

Joseph Diamond, 37, says he played basketball since the age of 14 and loves coming to this event.

The Lions Club volunteers also helped with vision screenings as well as assist with concessions and other tasks that need to be done.

Lawrence County Teams include:

  • 2 – All Girl Teams
  • 2- Men’s 3 on 3 Teams
  • 2- 21 and under teams
  • Skills Team
  • Cheerleader Team
Lions Club members offered vision screenings and assisted in volunteering at the Limestone Classic

The Special Olympics is always seeking donations, and volunteers. It takes approximately $20,000 for the programs. A donation can be mailed to Post Office Box 691 or to get involved contact Lori Branham at 812-675-1439. ”
