You got games? Fun online games to play during quarantine - Daily Californian

We all may be quarantined, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, people are staying inside their homes, getting rid of all chances of being able to see friends in person to socialize. However, technology has advanced enough for us to be able to still interact with other people virtually, and we have seriously taken advantage of that. FaceTime calls, Zoom meetings, watch parties and other virtual activities have become incredibly widespread. This includes virtual games that normally would be played in person. Here is a list of some online games you can play with your friends during Zoom meetings or group FaceTime calls to keep the bad vibes away.

Jackbox Games

Jackbox Games have been around for a while, and they truly are some of the most iconic virtual party games. Fibbage, Quiplash and many other games come with a Jackbox pack. Not only are these games very fun and engaging, but they are also incredibly easy to set up. By entering a four-letter or four-digit code, anybody can join a game, similar to how Kahoot works. Once inside the game lobby, starting up the game is a matter of simply hitting a button, and you’re on your way. Each game on Jackbox has a different player cap, but for the most part, any game can be played with two or more players.

Codenames

This game is more of a challenging one. It requires heavy word association at times, and if you and the person you’re playing with aren’t on the same wavelength, it can be very difficult and frustrating. Codename rounds can last for a while, from five minutes all the way up to 30 minutes. They are simpler to start than Jackbox Games, however. Online Codenames has no start button, since the goal is simply to guess all the words on a predetermined board of words. It can be a bit complex to learn at first, but in general, it ends up making sense and is a fun game to play with a group of four.

Monopoly

Monopoly is perhaps one of the most iconic board games in history. You have definitely played it, and if you haven’t, then you’ve definitely heard of it and its destructive tendencies. There are many ways to play Monopoly online; some are free and some are not. At the end of the day, though, Monopoly is a very fun, easy-to-play game that can lead to some very funny or frustrating moments. It can also take a while to play, so if you want to pass the quarantine time away in an enjoyable fashion, this is definitely the way to go.

Skribbl.io

Skribbl.io is another fun game to play. It can take any number of players and it’s basically like playing Pictionary. The words are relatively easy to draw out, and there’ll always be some super creative or super terrible drawings every few rounds. It can get very competitive, though, since more points are awarded to people who can guess the correct answer the quickest. You don’t even need a Zoom meeting or other video calling service to play this game: It’s so simple, you can hop on, not say a word and people will immediately know how to play.

In conclusion, quarantine may get boring at times, but we can still have our own moments of happiness and normalcy. Board games, humor and general social interactions can go a great distance when it comes to cheering you up or distracting you from the current state of the world. So, grab a few people and give some of these games a try! You won’t regret it.
