THOMPSONVILLE, MI - Just in time for some later winter fun, Crystal Mountain resort has opened what they believe is the state’s first Pump Track for skiers and snowboarders.
Mountain bike riders will get the drift of this, as it’s similar to the undulating rollers or gentle “bumps” that are built into some trails. Crystal Mountains’ new feature follows that same type of design. It debuted in late February in a slow zone along the edge of the resort’s North Face runs.
“It’s a series of snow rollers that has typically been used for bike trails. So this concept in snow is unique for Michigan,” said Sammie Lukaskiewicz, the resort’s vice president of marketing and communications.
By “pumping” their body up and down over the rollers, skiers and snowboarders build momentum as they head downhill. The roller circuit was built on Megan’s Way, which is a beginners’ slope. The Pump Track was designed for all ages and skill levels.

To create the new track, Crystal Mountain teamed up with one of its longtime vendors, The Pumping Service LLC, a family-owned company that does septic tank and holding tank pumping.
“We’re excited to launch this new feature for our guests that also engages and helps promote a long-time partner here, The Pumping Service,” said John Melcher, Crystal Mountain’s CEO. “This unique partnership is certainly a first for Crystal Mountain, but we also believe it is the only current pump track in the state.”
To try out the new Pump Track, skiers and snowboarders will need a lift ticket. They’re selling fast this season, so you’ll want to buy one online and in advance of your trip. Check the website here for a ticket.
