Now, almost a year into quarantine, most people’s creativity is running dry. It’s like we are all stuck on the world’s worst cruise ship and the Ship Activity director has run out of ideas. The one thing we can all agree on lately is that we are bored.

In an effort to combat the increasing common ‘lockdown fatigue’ we have compiled a list of 20 fresh and exciting activities to spend your days during… these unprecedented times. (I vote that we retire that phrase for good after this is all over). We have something for everyone — people with kids, people on a budget, people looking to indulge, people itching to get out of their hometown, and everything in between. Inspired by similar national lists from CNN, USA Today and even the Mayo Clinic (CDC-approved), this list is filled with things to do that you can experience right here in the Triangle.

5 Things to Do With Kids

It is hard enough to be a parent in normal circumstances. Now parents have been tasked with keeping their kids entertained in a COVID environment. This part of the list is dedicated to activities that will bring a smile to your child’s face.

  • Go Water Tubing at Eno River

Hiking–Check. Picnics–Check. At this point, I think we are all looking for something different to do outdoors. Well weather permitting, if you’re feeling adventurous, consider water tubing at scenic Eno River in the Eno River State Park.

  • Jump Around at Defy Raleigh Trampoline Park

We can’t think of a better way to burn energy than to let jump up and down for a few hours. While every weekday has a ‘KidJump’ hour for tots six and under, this is also a great activity for kids over the age of 10. Defy Raleigh’s trampoline arenas that would be perfect for your child to blow off some steam. Their updated COVID protocols include temperature checks, hourly cleaning, and designated footpaths between attractions. A 1-hour flight is $14.50 or $12 for kids six and under.

5 Things to Do For Free or Really Cheap

It’s always nice to save a quick buck wherever we can. But being on a budget doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to do.

  • Makeshift Field Day in Homestead Park

Do you remember field day,  or ‘Super Kids’ day, as it was called when I was young? It was the day at school where school never ended. Well why not tape into your inner kid and create your own?  With batting cages, baseball and softball fields, a skate park, a playground, two swimming pools, a picnic shelter and more, it would be easy to hold your own DIY athletic tournament.

  • Have a Nacho Table Night

TikTok has seen a surge in popularity during quarantine and one of its top food-related trends you can do in the comfort of your own home. An impromptu nacho table party. Just gather all the ingredients that you would use for a regular nacho night and spread them out on a foiled covered table. Creative, cost-effective and fun for the whole family. Turn on some tunes and dig in.

  • Make Your Own Skating Rink

With the news of the newly closed Jellybeans Roller Rink in Cary, a childhood institution for many, I started thinking. What if there was a way to get some fresh air, exercise while roller skating all while not spending a dime? Find a local church,  public parking lot, or basketball court and make your own skating rink.

  • Have a Museum Day

The Triangle isn’t known as the Smithonian of the South for nothing. Many of the museums in the area are still open, and more importantly still free. The North Carolina Museum of Science is offering virtual Reptile and Amphibian Days starting in March, the North Carolina Museum of History has modified or limited all their interactive exhibits and the North Carolina Museum of Art’s outdoor gallery is a great way to social distance. Cloth masks are required in all three museums. Bonus points if attend one of their ever-changing virtual events or exhibits, or take a walk in downtown Raleigh.

Have you ever gone to the movies and someone behind just wouldn’t stop talking? You thought to yourself this would be great if only I could have the theatre all to myself. • Complete the 4-Course TikTok Meal Challenge

Originated on (you guessed it) TikTok, the 4-Course Challenge is when you and a friend or partner, or in this case someone you live with for socially distanced purposes go to a different restaurant for each course of a meal. Drinks, Appetizers, Entree and Dessert. It’s a great way to try new restaurants in the area in a short and swift way. Try takeout or drive-thru to maximize your ability to social distance. Special Bonus: Visit only family-owned restaurants to support local businesses.

  • Go on a Craft Night Run

Nothing is more nostalgic than an arts and crafts shop. Stop by your local craft store and collect whatever crafts look fun and do them all marathon style. Think outside of the box. Knitting. Fuse beads. Birdhouse assembly. Thrift shopping and styling clothes. You name it. Grab a drink, log onto Zoom and compete with your friends.
