Anchor Bay didn’t want to fall into a bad habit.
The Tars lost to rival L’Anse Creuse North 3-1 on Wednesday, and the next night they trailed Eisenhower 1-0 at halftime in another MAC Red Division soccer match?
Uh-oh? Oh, no.
Senior Morgan Krupp scored twice in the second half to help the Tars defeat the Eagles 2-1 and level their division record at 1-1.
“Our goal is to never lose two in a row,” Anchor Bay coach Kevin Grammens said.
Grammens asked his team a question at halftime: “What’s our identity going to be going forward?”
He got an answer in the second 40 minutes.
“Part of our mission is to embrace adversity and do it together, and we did,” Grammens said. “I think they showed something. We were down. We had given up four goals in a game and a half, and that’s unlike us. But (we) never give up.”
Krupp broke a 1-1 tie when she headed in a corner kick from Lily Dreger with 25:04 left.
Senior keeper Avory Murray, a team captain, helped the Tars close out the victory that kept Anchor Bay in a crowded division race.
The week ended with Romeo atop the Red Division with six points from a 2-0 record. The Bulldogs didn’t give up a goal in either game.
Anchor Bay, Dakota, Eisenhower and L’Anse Creuse North were all 1-1.
The leaders play one another in the coming week.
On Monday, defending champion Eisenhower plays at L’Anse Creuse North and Romeo is at Dakota.
On Wednesday, Romeo is at Eisenhower and Dakota is at Anchor Bay.
Anchor Bay was ranked No. 7 last week in the state coaches’ Division 1 poll.
In the MAC Gold, Warren Woods-Tower and Lamphere won their first two matches. They meet at Lamphere on Wednesday.
Regina is ranked No. 1 in Division 3.
The Saddlelites play at Divine Child on Tuesday.
