The Chicago Bears showed interest in Southern offensive lineman Ja’Tyre Carter at the Senior Bowl. It wasn’t clear at the time if they’d be able to get him late in the draft or as an undrafted free agent. Then they added three 7th round picks via trade. Sure enough, the first of them was spent on the promising young blocker. Two things stand out right away with him. Good athleticism for his size and a nasty mentality in his run blocking.
He loves to maul. Yet like most linemen coming out of smaller schools, his fundamentals need work. There were a lot of technical issues that held him back. The good news is everything is fixable with proper coaching. He’s got versatility to play tackle or guard and is fearless in his approach. He doesn’t care who he lines up against. They’re in for a fight on every snap. It isn’t hard to understand why GM Ryan Poles likes him.
