A full-time lifestyle manager keeps residents busy with plenty of social events and activities

Situated on 70 acres south of Clark Road, Cobblestone on Palmer Ranch offers resort-style living, maintenance-free care, and superb location. The gated community has 180 homes, most of which back onto five lakes and wooded wetlands.

A boulevard-like, main entrance off McIntosh Road leads past an attractive name sign, supported by a stone wall that has a distinct Mediterranean flair. Palm trees abound throughout the neighborhood.

Cobblestone was developed as an Esplanade community by Taylor Morrison, a national builder based in Scottsdale, Arizona. The company’s signature brand features active lifestyle as one of its components.

The 4,700-square-foot clubhouse has gathering rooms, a catering kitchen and fitness center. Other amenities include a luxurious swimming pool, a fire pit, bocce ball and pickleball courts, a dog park and a children’s playground.

A full-time lifestyle manager plans a host of social events and activities, from Whiskey Wednesday to trivia nights, Ladies’ Night Out, yoga, and “Pump It Up” classes. There is a pickleball league and a golfing group. Every holiday has a celebratory party and outside instructors and performers come to visit. The Asolo Theater has presented three play readings there.

“We had virtual activities during the corona virus ‘lockdown’ — a virtual photo contest and virtual bingo that benefitted All Faith’s Food Bank,” said Scott Anderson, president of the Cobblestone homeowners association. “We have a program called ‘Cobblestone Gives Back,’ and many of our residents are involved in non-for-profit organizations.”

“With so many programs and fun things for homeowners to take part in, you can get as involved or be as private as you want to be,” Susan Katanic, a realtor with Michael Saunders and Company. “I love the friendliness of all the people here. Everyone looks out for everyone else.”

“There is always something to do,” Anderson agreed. “I’ve lived in Sarasota for 30 years, and when I moved south to Palmer Ranch, I worried I wouldn’t know a soul. But there’s so much socialization that happens around the pool and activities center, I made a great number of friends quickly.”

When Taylor Morrison started to develop Cobblestone in 2015, it offered nine different models of single-family residences in Tuscan-style architecture, with corbel tile roofs and paver driveways. Homes ranged in size from 1,700 to 3,100 square feet, and buyers could customize them with upgrades and ornamental details, and even move things around.

“My house would have been a 3-bed, 2-bath home, but I wanted the third bedroom to become den for my clock collection,” Anderson explained.

Katanic’s listing with her business partner, Janet Montgomery, at 4185 Cascina Way is one of the largest residences in the neighborhood. The 3-bed, 3-bath home with an expanded, open floor plan has 3,095 square feet of living space and an asking price of $725,000. “After it was built, the owners customized the interior further,” she said.

Although Cobblestone has a tot lot playground, its residents are mostly older, semi- retired and retired. “We’re not a 55+ community, but we don’t have a lot of kids,” said Anderson. “Demographics are about 40 percent snowbirds. People are from all over the United States, with some coming from as far away as Germany and Sweden. It’s a great mix.”

They appreciate the convenient location. “It takes me 15 to 20 minutes to get to the Asolo Theater and Ringling Museum,” said Anderson. “Siesta Beach is close, too.”

For the active-minded who like to walk and ride bikes, the Legacy Trail is only a quarter mile distant, with an entrance where it crosses Sawyer Look. TPC Prestancia Golf Club is almost adjacent to the south, and the Stoneybrook Golf Course is within easy driving distance.

Nearby Clark Road provides expedient access to I-75 and numerous shopping and restaurant opportunities. The Potter Park YMCA and Westfield Sarasota Square Mall with Costco and the AMC movie theaters are less than 3-miles away.

HOA fees of $428 a month cover upkeep of the gate, private roads, and amenities, and pay for lawncare and irrigation for all residences.

Currently, there are eight homes on the market in Cobblestone, ranging in price from $419,000 to $759,000.
