First-time author, mother of nine, and passionate Tacoma-area community advocate, Angela Connelly, is releasing her book and celebrating its release with a book launch party this weekend.
Tacoma community advocate, Angela Connelly, is releasing her new book, The Crowded Table: The Brave and Beautiful Choice to Mother Many, this weekend.
In her book, she highlights the joys and challenges of parenting a large family, and shares the stories of 52 women from across the globe—from Nigeria to England, from Guatemala to Connelly’s backyard of Tacoma, Wash.—who have made the brave choice to mother many.
Readers will learn about finding joy in the chaos, the science behind declining birth rates, and finding peace even when parenting feels like the hardest thing you’ve ever done. It’s a necessary commentary on mothering today—especially when societal norms do not promote large families.
"My book, in some ways, is a response to the culture that discourages women from being mothers with big families,” said Connelly. "Sometimes it is looked down upon and people react with shock,” she said. "But these are women who have made these choices for family and for life and their crowded table. They love it. They see beauty and joy in it.”
On Saturday, May 21, at 12 p.m., McDuff’s Café at the Highland Golf Course in Tacoma (1400 N. Highlands Pkwy.) will host a book launch that is open to all. Individuals as well as families (all ages) are welcome to attend the "community party” and enjoy light refreshments, meet Connelly, purchase books, and request she sign them. A percentage of all proceeds from "The Crowded Table” will go to nonprofit organizations that are helping moms and babies who need support. You can also buy your copy of the book at Amazon.com.
