Halloween falls on a weekend this year, and with community events planned around the Marshall area, trick-or-treaters should have plenty of chances to get in on the fun.

Family events are being held on both Saturday and Sunday, including trunk-or-treat events, hay rides, and even ice skating. Marshall events like Rock on Ice at the Red Baron Arena, the YMCA’s Halloween carnival and Residence HALLoween at SMSU are all returning on Saturday.

There are also spooky events, like the Haunted Tower, which will open at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday night. Groups can reserve a time online to climb the training tower at the M.E.R.I.T. Center in Marshall, which has been transformed into five floors of scares.

Halloween events are also planned around the area, including in Tracy, Walnut Grove, Granite Falls, and the Holmberg Orchard. Check out the list below for more details on area events:

Today

• The Haunted Tower on Erie Road

Where: MERIT Center, 1001 West Erie Road, Marshall

When: 7-11 p.m.

Reservations and waiver required. $5 admission. Groups of 6 can sign up for a time slot at visitmarshallmn.com. Event benefits SMSU Drama Club and SMSU Students Today Alumni Tomorrow.

Saturday

• Halloween Family Fun Day

Where: Lyon County Museum, Marshall

When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Activities include pumpkin scavenger hunt, make and take crafts and coloring activities, $1 orange or root beer floats in the ice cream shop. Kids dressed in Halloween costume will receive a treat bag.

• Downtown Marshall Trick or Treating

Where: Participating downtown businesses. Signs will be posted on participating business doors.

When: 1-3 p.m.

• Halloween at the YMCA

Where: Marshall Area YMCA

When: 1-3 p.m.

Come in costume and play games to win prizes and candy. Freewill donations accepted for the YMCA Scholarship Fund.

• Halloween Rock on Ice

Where: Red Baron Arena & Expo, Marshall

When: Sessions are available from noon-1:30 p.m., from 1:45-3:15 p.m. and from 3:30-5 p.m.

Pre-registration re- quired at https://bit.ly/MCS2021Registration. Fee for kids in 8th grade and under is $10. Includes skate rental.

• Trunk or Treat at Holy Redeemer

Where: Holy Redeemer School parking lot, Marshall

When: 2-4 p.m.

• Trunk or Treat at Samuel Lutheran

Where: Samuel Lutheran School parking lot, Marshall

When: 2-4 p.m.

• Granite Falls Community Trunk N Treat

Where: Eighth Street between Prentice Street and Third Street, Granite Falls.

When: 2-5 p.m.

• Residence HALLoween

Where: Check-in at Commons Central, Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall

When: 4-7 p.m.

Candy, games and crafts for kids in pre-K through 6th grade and their families. Entry is $1 or one non-perishable item for local food banks.

• Holmberg Orchard Moonlight Hayride

Where: Holmberg Orchard, 12697 325th Street, Vesta

When: 6:30-9 p.m. Last ride starts at 8:30 p.m.

Hauntfest will be at Holmberg Orchard for a fun and exciting dark hayride. Younger children need to be accompanied by an adult. Recommended for children age 6 and up. Food truck will be open. Freewill donation.

• Trick or Treat and Vendor Show

Where: Lee-Mar Ranch, Granite Falls

When: 1-5 p.m.

Event features trick or treating down the stall alley, vendor show in indoor arena, and Papa D’s Food Truck.

• Trunk or Treat at Cornerstone United

Where: Cornerstone United Methodist Church parking lot, Marshall

When: 3-5 p.m.

• Outdoor Trick or Treating at Heritage Pointe

Where: Heritage Pointe Senior Living, 207 North Fourth Street, Marshall

When: 3-5 p.m.

• Halloween Parade at Hill Street Place

Where: Hill Street Place, Marshall

When: 4-5:30 p.m.

Trick-or treaters can parade past the front sitting and dining room windows at Hill Street Place in their costumes. Participants will receive a treat bag.

• Trick or Treat Main Street

Where: Walnut Grove

When: 4-6 p.m.

Free kids’ event featuring trick-or-treating, face painting, hot dogs and juice boxes.

• Trunk or Treat at Sanford Tracy

Where: Sanford Tracy south parking lot, Tracy

When: 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Kids are encouraged to walk past Prairie View Healthcare and O’Brien Court in their costumes.

• Trunk or Treat at St. Stephen Lutheran Church

Where: St. Stephen parking lot, 1301 S. Fourth Street, Marshall

When: 5:45-7 p.m.
