FLINT, Mich. - U.S. Representative Dan Kildee was back in mid-Michigan on Friday to endorse fellow Rep. Elissa Slotkin for her U.S. Senate run.
Slotkin is running against several other candidates for the seat that is expected to be vacated by longtime Senator Debbie Stabenow.
Stabenow announced that she will retire after completing her current term.
Kildee, who has announced that he will not seek reelection, is endorsing Slotkin to fill Stabenow's seat, in a race that is becoming crowded.
"For the last five years I’ve seen Elissa Slotkin be one of the most effective and hardworking legislators in Congress,” said Kildee. “Elissa has shown an unmatched commitment to her constituents – not just by showing up and listening but by actually finding ways to get things done. Especially on issues like bringing down the cost of prescription drugs, stopping gun violence, and bringing manufacturing and jobs back to places like Michigan, Elissa’s track record is clear. At such a pivotal time for our country and our state, one thing is absolutely certain to me – Elissa Slotkin is the best person to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate.”
Slotkin is one of 4 Democrats running to fill Stabenow's seat.
There are currently 12 Republican candidates that have announced runs, as well as one Independent candidate and one Green Party candidate.
