Jonatan Berggren latest Red Wings scratch due to crowded roster - MLive.com

Having more capable forwards than lineup spots is a nice luxury for a Detroit Red Wings team decimated by injuries much of the season.

Tonight, it’s Jonatan Berggren’s turn to sit when the New York Rangers visit Little Caesars Arena.

Coach Derek Lalonde said before the game that Filip Zadina, scratched in Tuesday’s 3-1 victory in Washington, is back in the lineup. Jakub Vrana, assigned to Grand Rapids on Wednesday in a paper move, will remain in the lineup.

Lucas Raymond will miss his seventh game due to a lower-body injury.

Berggren has been held without a point the past four games, registering only one shot. It’s the first time he has been scratched since being recalled from the Griffins in November.

“Really wanted to get Zadina back in because he played well previous to the scratch the other day,” Lalonde said. “We’re going to keep Vrana in, give him another opportunity. So, Berggren is going to be the odd-man out.”

Berggren has 11 goals and 21 points in 43 games.

“Obviously, very happy with Berggren’s game,” Lalonde said. “Offensively, he’s always producing plays for us, but there’s still some areas with his 200-foot game … I don’t think it’s a bad thing for him to watch. Expect to get him back in Saturday.”

The Red Wings might have Raymond back when they host Tampa Bay on Saturday.

“He had a very positive skate today,” Lalonde said. “He was the only player that came in due to the weather (the morning skate was canceled due to the ice storm) and was a step in the right direction. We’ll see how practice goes tomorrow but Saturday is a real possibility.”
