Retail experts are expecting stores to be very crowded for Black Friday.
"This year is very different than what we've seen in the past few years,” said Marshal Cohen, NPD Group chief retail analyst. "The week leading into Black Friday, we saw an increase in apparel sales, and it wasn't from the gift perspective-- it was more about people getting outfits, their events, their family, their friends, and getting out."
Since the pandemic, people have been socializing and gathering more. Therefore, Cohen expects more people will be out and about shopping this holiday weekend.
He also believes there will be a slight pullback of how much shoppers will be spending this year.
For many, online shopping has been a favorite hobby during the pandemic. Some Long Islanders will continue to shop through their browser, avoiding the malls at all costs.
"I think the economy is a little bit frustrating for people right now - I'm not sure if they're going to spend a lot of money this season,” said Constantine Vrettos of Carle Place.
