Max Scherzer's Look-Alike Has Had Plenty of Fun Pretending to Be the Pitcher Over the Years - NBC4 Washington

When the Nationals and Yankees clash on Thursday evening to begin Major League Baseball's 60-game sprint, many Washington fans will gather at Navy Yard bars nearby the stadium to take in the incredible pitching matchup of Max Scherzer versus Gerrit Cole.

In one of those bars, fans might stumble upon someone who looks awfully similar to Max Scherzer. But don't worry, the actual Scherzer will be on the bump Thursday, not downing brews outside of Nationals Park.

Max Scherzer has a look-alike: Kevin Kramer, a 46-year-old man who lives within five minutes of Nationals Park. On Tuesday, the New York Post wrote a story about the Scherzer look-alike, where Kramer explained several scenarios over the years where he's benefitted from looking like the Nationals' ace.

Kramer said that he first realized that he looked similar to Scherzer in 2015, when someone at the grocery store kept yelling "Max" at him.

"I was at a grocery store [in 2015] going down the aisle and a random guy was yelling at me, ‘Hey Max, Max,' and I thought it was mistaken identity, like this guy has a friend named Max," Kramer told the Post.

Over the years, Kramer told the Post he's gotten several free drinks at D.C. bars. Additionally, he received cheers on the Metro and even had a police escort for Washington's World Series parade last fall.

Both Scherzer and Kramer have plenty of similar features. Scherzer is two inches taller than Kramer, but both have a similar hair and beard style. The main difference is that Scherzer has the rare condition called heterochromia iridis, meaning he has one blue eye and one brown one. Kramer has brown eyes, but has worn a blue-colored contact out in public in the past to match Scherzer even more.

Kramer's popularity took off last fall during the Nationals' playoff run, and he even filmed a segment with the local D.C. FOX station.

"I've got my Nats hat on, I've got my Nats jacket on, I've got a black glove on and I've got a blue contact lens in my right eye. I'm basically Max," Kramer said to the Post.

On Monday, Kramer posted this video below to both his Twitter and TikTok page, doing the popular 'pose challenge.' In the video, it's certainly hard to spot the difference between the two.

Kramer also said that there's one other added benefit that comes with looking like the likely first-ballot Hall of Famer: the ladies.

"Let's just say this," Kramer said. "For people to think you look like Max Scherzer. It certainly doesn't hurt. The ladies like Max Scherzer."
