Tom Holland's latest TV show, The Crowded Room, has faced a wave of criticism. The show, a thriller centered around the character Danny Sullivan, played by Holland, showcases his life story through a series of police interviews following his arrest at a crime scene. Despite having a talented cast and an intriguing premise, critics have voiced their disappointment with the series. The Rotten Tomatoes approval rating for the show currently stands at a disappointing 30%. They argue that the plot takes too long to unfold, leaving viewers with an unsatisfying and sometimes frustrating experience.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland addressed the overwhelmingly negative reviews, describing them as "a kick in the teeth." He openly expressed his surprise and disappointment upon reading the harsh critiques. However, Holland maintains a positive outlook and acknowledges that criticism is an inherent part of the industry he works in.

"It was a kick in the teeth. Rolling over, looking up the reviews, and then all of a sudden I was like, "Wow. That’s a bad review." Sometimes there’s a redeeming quality in there. There was nothing... There will be good ones. There will be. I try to have a healthy outlook on all that sort of stuff and respect everyone’s opinion."

Despite the negative reception from critics, The Crowded Room managed to strike a chord with the audience. The show boasts an impressive 91% audience score, showcasing a clear divide in opinion between critics and viewers. While some audience members have mentioned the slow pacing and occasional digressions in the storyline, they have overall praised Tom Holland's performance, hailing it as one of his best. Additionally, viewers found the second half of the show to be particularly intense.

Tom Holland Takes Acting Break Amidst Harsh Criticism for The Crowded Room

Apple TV+

Tom Holland recently announced a break from his acting career, opting to take a year off to recharge and refocus. One of the main reasons for this decision stems from the demanding production process of his latest project, The Crowded Room, on Apple TV+. During a recent interview with Extra, Holland shed light on the challenges he encountered while working on The Crowded Room. He delved into the exploration of unfamiliar emotions, as well as the added responsibility of taking on a producer role, which added an extra layer of pressure to an already demanding schedule.

The cumulative effect of these factors eventually led to a breaking point, prompting Holland to take a much-needed break.

“We were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before. And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure. I’m no stranger to hard work. I’ve lived by the idea that hard work is good work. Then again, the show did break me. There did come a time where I needed a break and disappeared and went to Mexico for a week and had time on a beach and laid low. I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was. I am excited to see how it turns out. I feel like our hard work wasn’t in vain.”
